Managing Duplicates
Find and merge duplicate entries in your tree.
Finding Duplicates
- Go to Tree Tools
- Click "Find Duplicates"
- Review potential matches
Duplicate Detection
System looks for matches based on:
- Similar or identical names
- Matching birth dates
- Same parents or spouses
- Overlapping locations
Merging Duplicates
- Review suggested duplicates
- Verify they're the same person
- Click "Merge"
- Choose which information to keep
- Confirm merge
Merge Results
After merging:
- One person remains
- All relationships preserved
- Photos and documents combined
- Notes and stories merged
⚠️ Caution: Merges cannot be undone. Verify carefully before merging!
Preventing Duplicates
- Search before adding new people
- Use consistent name formatting
- Add birth dates when known
- Review import results carefully
